Our 2016/17 Season Opening Day attracted a large gathering of VIPS, Guests, Members & Friends of the Club for a convivial afternoon to celebrate the start of the new season. Our VIPS included Jonathan Coleman, the Minister of Health & Sport (resplendent in an NZ Olympic Tracksuit), Kay McKintyre, Kaipatiki Board Chairperson, ACC Councillor Ann Hartley and Bill Plunkett, Chairman of the Birkenhead Licensing Trust. Grant Gillon and Danielle Grant from Auckland Future were also in attendance. Good friends from other North Harbour Bowling Clubs including Glenfield, Sunnybrae, Northcote Ladies BC & Milford were welcomed and the day also attracted interest from potential new club members and we look forward to seeing them again in the next few weeks.
The weather was kind and the NZ Flag was raised with the Ceremonial First Bowl of Season being delivered by our Green Keeper, Morris Pita, in his usual impeccable style, with the accompaniment and encouragement of all present. Afternoon Tea was served followed by a very enjoyable afternoon of socialising. We are looking forward to another season of Lawn Bowls consisting of our own Competitions, Club Championships and North Harbour Bowls Centre events.
New members of all ages genders are always welcome to join us on Tuesday Evenings at 6pm and most Saturday afternoons at 1.30pm for casual bowling in a friendly environment. Bring a pair of flat shoes and a smile and we will supply the bowls and get you started. Remember all current bowlers had to start somewhere and at some time, and we would love to be a part of opening up the attractions of a new interest for you in playing our sport.
