Stuart Holmes Remembered in Fitting Style

A good field of members and visitors (thank you to teams from Birkenhead BC and the Ron Ferguson led triple) contributed to a day that would have found Stuart in his element. Good weather, great company and a close result all contributed to yet another enjoyable day at the Mighty Haven. The format of triples including at least one junior or non-bowler in each team is always popular and Saturday 14th was no exception. It is a good job we played during the day rather than the evening as the noise level may have been drawn to the attention of the Council, a situation noted by your temporarily incapacitated scribe from his unusual location in the Clubhouse during play.

Play comprised 4 games of 8 ends with both the 1st and 2nd place teams having 4 wins each, and differentiated only by a small number of ends and points. Our 2nd placed team were Ray Anderson & Jay Kalidas (New Player) skipped by Mandy Little while our 1st placed team (and furthest travelled) were Peter Hunia & Jack Waikawa (New Player) skipped by Beach Haven past member Ron Ferguson, now from Weymouth. The afternoon was MC’d by Past President Ian (call me 4th – again) Little and the “magnificent” Trophy was presented by President Doug Laughlan to Ron and his team in a light-hearted manner of which Stuart would have thoroughly approved and a the day closed with a very social hour or so in the Clubhouse.

Our thanks go to all members and visitors who participated, the whole day passing in an atmosphere of friendly sportsmanship and good fellowship.
