Our first Club Championship event of the season, that of the Open Men’s and Junior Ladies’ titles, resulted in a great turnout for the day with a full green for the initial Round Robin matches. Despite a fresh breeze the day remained warm and provided perfect conditions for some excellent bowling throughout. This was particularly encouraging not only for the individual members concerned but also the Club as some of the players are in their first year of competitive bowling. The scores in both the Ladies’ and Men’s finals were remarkably close and provided great entertainment for the membership nearly all of whom, having taken part in the earlier rounds, remained to witness the high drama of the finals. The eventual winners can justly feel they had earned their titles. The presentation of the respective Cups was made by President Doug to Judy Withers and Roy Parker and was followed by some good humoured banter and a most enjoyable social afternoon. It was mentioned in the after-match addresses that the green is in superb condition and played extremely well despite the breezy conditions. Well done Morris Pita!! Also well done Match Convenor Rick Markovina for organising such a good field of contestants. The future of the Club is looking brighter every day!
