Once again our Burns Night Evening drew a great crowd of members and visitors to enjoy a very social evening of bowls followed by a magnificent rendition (in view of the fate of the plate beneath the Haggis one might say “a cracking rendition”) of Robbie Burns’ famous “Ode to a Haggis”. All this with the Scottish theme enhanced by the magnificent piping of Andrew Wilkie who once again put on a musical treat for us.
Our Burns Night event gets bigger every year and is now a significant milestone in our social calendar. This is undoubtedly due to the professional participation of Andrew and our own Thespian, Ian Little, in full regalia. On this occasion they were assisted by Douglas Laughlan - Haggis Bearer, Richard Ponting – Sword Bearer and Rick Markovina – Whisky Bearer. Gentlemen, “Lang mae yer lum reek!”
Due to the numbers of players involved both a Triples and Pairs Section were drawn. The Pairs Section was won by Jean Everett and Frank, with Rick Markovina (a good Scottish name that!), Elaine West and Doug Laughlan taking out the Triples Section.
Our thanks go to our visitors for joining us and entering into the spirit(!) of the evening. (The Badger is still wondering what happened to the bottle of Famous Grouse!!!!!!)
