The Club was pleased to see another good turnout on Sunday 26th Feb for one of our regular annual events. Again we were blessed by the weather and also a superb green to play on.
We would like to thank all our visitors, including those from Birkenhead and Glenfield BCs and especially the two teams from Thames who eventually found enough money to bribe Larry into being the designated driver! What a good mate, especially as they had a very early start to the day. We also had players from Northcote and Sunnybrae in various teams.
The conditions lent themselves to some very accurate bowling (by some!) leading to quite few tight games. Judging from the vocal accompaniment to the bowling there was also a lot of fun being had by all, which is as it should be.
Our eventual winners were the all-ladies team from Thames of Chrissie Potter and Mary Webster skipped by Barbara Van Arden, well played ladies, what a great result despite the early start. Runners up were Bruce & Sandy skipped by John from Birkenhead and a close 3rd place went to Tommy Campbell and Gary Helmling skipped by Brian Nolan from Glenfield. The hard luck story of the day was for Eileen Ponting & Martin Hoani skipped by Richard Ponting who lost their last end in the last game to drop from what would have been 2nd to 4th – Aaaaah!!!!
Beach Haven Bowling Club sincerely thanks Terry Donnelly and his team at Contract Landscapes Ltd for their ongoing involvement with this tournament. Our Club would not function without this type support and the management team at BHBC and their generosity.
