Singles Finals Day Throws Up Some Classic Matches

Despite a very small field for the Senior Ladies Singles Championship the quality of the bowling was not diminished. Saturday 8th of April sent us a beautifully fine day with almost still conditions and a superbly prepared green that enhanced the day. Those members who had turned out to watch proceedings we well rewarded. The Finalists were Nola Glenn and Eileen Ponting, who closed the final out, but not without strong resistance from Nola.

The Men’s Junior (1-5yrs) Championship was also decided on the same day with a Round Robin of three matches played to find the two finalists. Again the standard of bowling was excellent and as the day progressed we saw some very close finishes in several games. The Finalists were Karl Glenn and Jason Blackmore with Jason just, only just, prevailing after a spirited fightback from Karl which kept the spectators on the edge of their seats.

Our congratulations go to Eileen and Jason, both worthy Champions for the 2016/17 year. We wish both players well for their involvement with the Centre Champ of Champs matches in the next few weeks.

A Singles day is not complete without input from non-playing members and the Club’s thanks go to the Markers for the day, Rick Markovina, John Everett, Ray Anderson & Richard Ponting.
