The Ian Cowley Memorial Cup played in the usual spirit

This year’s playing of the Ian Cowley Memorial Cup today may have lacked a few of our regular players due to extended holidays, but lacked nothing by way of fun and laughter generated not only by this Tournament’s tradition of being played in Fancy Dress, but also by the repartee from our resident comedians on the green. Ian would have been in his element today, and we felt sure he was benevelently watching us from somewhere. We were also advised by the Coastgaurd that a square rigger had been spotted sailing up the harbour towards Beach Haven wharf and sure enough three of the crew arrived looking as though they had just stepped off Pymouth Hoe and asking if they could join in. Couldn't fool The Badger though - I know Johnny Depp when I see him!

The weather held fine for us all day, the green was in excellent condition and the amber fluid was cold, a combination that could never fail to provide a most enjoyable day. However, every tournament has its losers (Presidential teams are not exempt!) and also its winners. Our congratulations go to today’s Runners Up, Rick Markovina and Rowena Glogoski skipped by Wayne Glogoski and our winners (Mr) Ray Anderson and Bill Briton skipped by John Everett. Regrettably Anne Cowley could not be with us this year to present the handsom Memorial Cup and this duty fell to our new President Richard (loser) Ponting performing his first such duty. Altogether a great day out in the true spirit of Beach Haven Bowling Club.

Go the Mighty Haven!
