Mens Championship Singles played - at long last!

Our delayed Mens Singles Championships was played out in one fairly long day and our thanks go to Sunnybrae Bowling Club for the use of their Carpet Green on Sunday 21st June. Our own green is under a much-needed winter care and restoration programme and due to the COVID problems, this is almost certainly the latest in the season we have ever had to play any form of Club Champs. It would not have been possible without Sunnybrae’s help and hospitality on the day and their actions highlight the excellent mutual warm relationships between all bowling Clubs in the area.

The day started out looking a bit gloomy and damp, but conditions improved during the morning to the point where they were quite pleasant and in no way interfered with the programme for the day.

Section play showed up some very close games decided by only one or two point differentials, but in the end the semi-finals comprised what would be generally regarded as the four most experienced players in the Club (Ian Little, Dan Markovina, Rick Markovina & Roy Parker) which showed the Match Convenor had made good selections for Round Robin groups. The final was played between Dan Markovina and Roy Parker and contained some excellent bowling by both players, but Roy’s overall accurate bowling and tactical play won out on the day. Our congratulations go to Roy for his first Singles title at the Club and our thanks also go to him for his generous bar shout at the end of the day.

After such a long break, the strong camaraderie that exists at the Club made for a very enjoyable day, the sort that we all had sorely missed during the darkest days of lock-down. Thanks once again to Sunnybrae Club for helping us have such a great day.
