Saturday 30th January dawned fine and with a promise of the heat to come. And come it did, from above and from the green. Our Championship 4s Tournament saw some of the closest results we have had at any time this season. Unfortunately, due to other commitments, we had a limited field, but the scoring indicates that in all probability, the best of the best were participating. This was never more apparent than in the Final with the result that Roy Parker’s team of Merv Malpas, Mo Pita and Steve Doolan and Dan Markovina’s team comprising Gareth Towler, Garry Glenn and Rick Markovina were tied at 12 shots each after the last end.
Following a very tight game throughout, a deciding end was played and Dan Markovina found himself facing a compact head and 3 shots down with the last bowl of the end to play. A very accurate draw shot somehow found its way into the head and took the match - much to the delight of his team who, to a man, must have thought their chances had gone. As they say - “It’s not over until the skinny bloke sings”……
Condolences go to Roy Parker and his team who must have been quietly confident until that last bowl was delivered. Never mind, Roy, there’s always another year, always another year.
Well done to Dan and his team, it was a great match to watch.
Once again, our thanks go to Brendon Kelly and Mo Pita for their work on the green which is responding beautifully to their efforts.
Team Image to come.
